At 07:50 on the 4th of May, an Argentinian patrol aircraft picked up the British carrier battle group on its radar, 70 miles south-east of Stanley. Two Super Etendards were flown from Rio Grande at 09:45, each carrying a single Exocet anti-ship missile. After refuelling in-flight, they flew at low altitude, and received target information from the patrol aircraft.
